Our Chess & Checkers Games team has moved the game of chess literally into a new dimension. We have recently launched the royal board game in the version for Oculus goggles allowing duels in virtual reality. Chess VR is now available on the Oculus Quest platform.
Our mobile game Chess proved to be quite a success by crossing the 10 million downloads threshold on Google Play. Based on the same chess engine, we have developed chess in virtual reality technology adapting to the requirements of the Oculus Quest platform.
Chess VR is our first virtual reality game. What is completely different from the mobile app, is the game environment. Chessboard is no longer a square that fits on the screen of a smartphone - looking through VR glasses, we see it in three dimensions and using the controllers, we can move the pieces around the board with our own hand.
Chess VR allows you to play with a virtual opponent on ten difficulty levels. The game interface is simple and clear, so that everyone, even the most novice player can easily find their way in it. When designing the game, we were inspired by such titles as BeatSaber, HalfLife Alyx, and SUPERHOT VR.
Chess VR game is available in 10 language versions. It can be downloaded for USD 4,99 on the official Oculus Quest website.
Pandemic has had a direct impact on the VR market - users, forced to stay at home, were looking for new, attractive forms of entertainment. It's not a surprise that record results were registered by VR game development studios and headset manufacturers (according to estimates, the new Oculus Quest 2 generated sales of up to 1 million units in Q4 2020). Currently, the VR gaming market is primarily geared towards American gamers - it is in the United States where the most VR hardware is sold. According to the latest data from analytics firm Statista, the global VR gaming market is currently worth about .4 billion and will reach .4 billion by 2024.
